" Nordic melancholy, Slovak charisma. Searching for a common language between our two worlds..."
Slovnorama grew out of a collaboration between singer Vanessa Weisz and producer Erling
Ramskjell, which began during his music residency in Trenčín as part of the project TREBØ –
more culture, culture connects. In time, Erling also invited young musicians from the Trenčín
City Chamber Orchestra to join what was meant to be “just” a one-off concert. But that very
one-off nature turned out to be the spark: once the energy of people from different
backgrounds, countries, languages and instruments clicked, it was clear this shouldn’t end with
the final applause. The concert gradually became a band.
That’s why Slovnorama sounds like a living organism - the shared voice of a band that has found its own pace and
aesthetic. “We clicked even though we come from very different
backgrounds,” says Erling Ramskjell about the project’s beginnings.
Vanessa Weisz adds that the project also meant a creative shift for her: “Switching to lyrics in Slovak was
interesting, and sometimes, while listening to the classical instruments, I got lost in my own world.”
Slovnorama pairs Nordic melancholy with gentle irony and quiet wonder. The music is hazy and
sad, yet it carries hope and, sharply but with empathy, marvels at the strange reasons people
invent for their decisions.
